What Intuit changed, and when
Intuit posted QuickBooks Online updates dated August 3, September 10 and October 6, 2026. It also keeps a 2026 improvements page, last updated August 13, 2026, that lists fixes to receipt capture and bank matching.
Read together, they touch four things an owner or a bookkeeper deals with every week: paying bills, sending invoices, keeping bank feeds connected and getting receipts in. Some of it works on its own. Some of it only helps if someone turns it on or cleans up old settings, and that is what this post is for.
Bill Pay can now use your vendor credits
Say a supplier shorted a delivery and owes you a credit. Until now, applying that credit and paying the next bill were two jobs in two places. Intuit's October 6, 2026 update lets you apply vendor credits while you schedule a QuickBooks Bill Pay payment, instead of doing it in separate steps.
The vendor sees it too. The email and remittance advice they get show which credits were applied.
That second part matters more than it sounds. A supplier who gets a short payment with no reason attached calls your office to ask about it. A supplier who sees the credit listed next to the payment has the answer already.
The September 10, 2026 update changed what one plan includes. Intuit says QuickBooks Online Advanced now includes Bill Pay Elite at no added cost, with free standard ACH. If you are on Advanced, open your billing page and make sure you are not still paying for Bill Pay on the side.
Invoices: drafts you approve
The August 3, 2026 update added two ways to start an invoice without opening the invoice screen. You can ask for one in the Intuit Intelligence chat inside QuickBooks. You can also create and send QuickBooks estimates, invoices and payment links from Claude and ChatGPT.
The part to know before you try it: Intuit says drafts of estimates, invoices, payment links and reminders made this way do not go out until you approve them. Treat every draft like one a new hire wrote on their first day. Check the customer name, the amount and the due date before you press send.
Bank feeds: fewer surprise disconnects, clearer rules
A bank feed that quietly stops is how a month of transactions goes missing until someone notices at tax time. Since the August 3, 2026 update, QuickBooks warns you when a bank connection is about to expire. When you see that warning, reconnect the same day, not at the end of the month.
The same update changed how bank rules behave. QuickBooks now flags rules that duplicate or conflict with each other, instead of applying whichever rule comes first.
Matching got smarter too. Intuit's 2026 improvements page, last updated August 13, 2026, says bank match suggestions are now ranked by confidence, and the search widens its date range when no nearby match is found. In practice, the top suggestion is the one to look at first, and a payment that cleared a week late has a better chance of finding its invoice.
Receipt capture got fixes, not features
The same improvements page says QuickBooks fixed a group of receipt-capture problems so receipts land in the right place with the right amounts. One of those fixes is that receipts forwarded to QuickBooks now show up promptly.
There is nothing to turn on here. If you gave up on forwarding receipts because they took too long to appear, it is worth one more try. Forward a receipt from your phone and see where it lands and whether the amount matches the paper.
What to do
- Open QuickBooks Bill Pay, pick a vendor who owes you a credit, and apply it while you schedule the next payment.
- If you are on QuickBooks Online Advanced, check your billing page for a separate Bill Pay charge, since Intuit says Bill Pay Elite is now included at no added cost.
- Open your bank rules and clear every rule QuickBooks flags as a duplicate or a conflict. Then scan the last few months of entries those rules sorted.
- Look at your bank feeds for an expiry warning and reconnect any account that shows one.
- Forward one test receipt to QuickBooks today and check that it shows up with the right amount.
- If you try drafting invoices from the Intuit Intelligence chat, Claude or ChatGPT, read every draft before you approve it.
If you would rather have orders or bills reach QuickBooks without anyone retyping them, look at automations or custom apps; you own the code and the accounts from the first day.
