AI for an industry

AI for restaurants

A receptionist for the phone the host cannot reach in the dinner rush, and texts the afternoon before that ask each party to confirm or move its booking.

Updated October 16, 2026

In short

Calls about a table tonight come in while the host is seating the room. An AI receptionist can take them and book tables straight into your reservation service where the written plan confirms it can, and that connection is part of what the plan prices. Every allergy question goes to a person on your staff, and the receptionist is set never to call a dish safe.

Key facts

The reservation book stays where it is

Your tables already live in a reservation service, and the receptionist books into it only if that service lets another system add to its book, which the written plan checks first. Where it does not, the caller's details reach the host stand as an email to enter.

The point of sale holds the menu and stays out of these jobs: the receptionist and the chat take your hours and dishes from your own pages. Supplier invoices go to your bookkeeping app for someone to approve before they are paid.

A worked example (hypothetical)

Saturday, twenty to eight, at a bistro in Echo Park with ninety covers on the book. The host is walking a six-top to the patio when the phone rings twice in two minutes.

The first caller wants a table for four at nine, and the receptionist books it into the reservation service. The second asks whether the mole has peanuts, because her son is allergic, and her call goes straight through to the manager on duty; the receptionist says nothing about the dish.

The table for four is the receptionist's work, and the next afternoon's confirmation texts belong to follow-up; the bistro's written plan would put a price on each.

Common questions

Can it answer allergy questions?

No. On the phone or in the chat, an allergy question goes to a person on your staff, and neither one is set to call a dish safe or to read out its ingredients in reply. Whether a dish is safe for someone that night is your kitchen's call.

Can it take pickup orders over the phone?

It comes down to your point of sale. Some let another program place an order and some only let it read them, so the written plan checks yours before we promise it. Until then, it can tell callers how to order on your site.

What about large parties and catering?

It takes the date and the size of the party, then emails the request to whoever quotes them. Pricing the event and taking the deposit stay with you.

What happens when a guest calls to complain?

It takes down what happened and passes it to the manager, and it is set never to promise a refund or a free meal. Making it right is for your team.
